Something Old, Something New….

Everyone is familiar with the saying “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” and most brides find an item to go along with each part of the poem to wear on their wedding day, but the interesting history behind the saying is much less well-known.

The something old is meant to symbolize continuity with the bride’s family and the past. Something new represents a sense of optimism and hope for the new life that is just beginning. Something borrowed is supposed to come from a friend or family member who is happily married so that their success and good fortune will carry over to the new bride and groom and the something blue serves as a symbol of love and fidelity.
